The police have summoned Representative Lee Chun-seok (independent), who is under suspicion of stock name trading, as a suspect for investigation.
On the 14th, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Financial Crime Investigation Unit stated that they are currently investigating the representative at the Mapo branch office. He appeared before the police at 6:45 p.m. that day.
The police plan to confirm whether the representative engaged in stock name trading under the name of an aide, Cha.
The representative and the aide, Cha, are currently banned from leaving the country due to allegations of violating the Act on Real Name Financial Transactions and the Law on Prevention of Conflicts of Interest.
The representative became embroiled in controversy after a photo surfaced of him trading stocks under Cha's name in the National Assembly's main debating chamber on the 4th, prompting him to immediately leave the Democratic Party of Korea.
At that time, the representative was captured trading stocks of Naver and LG CNS, both of which are related to artificial intelligence (AI), raising concerns about a conflict of interest since he is the head of the second economic division responsible for AI policy at the Presidential Committee on Policy Planning.
However, the representative's position is that he 'mistakenly took his aide's mobile phone into the main chamber.'
Separately from this suspicion, the police are also investigating an incident on Oct. 7 of last year when the representative was caught on camera engaging in stock transactions using Cha's account during a National Assembly audit of the Land Infrastructure and Transport Committee held at the Government Complex Sejong.
On the 7th, the police established a dedicated investigation team of 25 members, led by Head of Team Ahn Yong-sik, which includes lawyers, accountants, and other legal and financial tracking experts.
