An international passenger flight scheduled to arrive at Incheon International Airport landed at Gimpo Airport without any notice, causing passengers to experience over two hours of inconvenience.
According to Yonhap News on the 14th, AirAsia Flight D7 506, which had departed from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia the day before, circled over domestic airspace and landed on the runway at Gimpo Airport around 8:08 p.m. The planned arrival time was 7:50 p.m., and the destination was Incheon Airport.
The captain announced just before landing that they had arrived at Incheon Airport, but the scenery outside the window was Gimpo, not Incheon.
Passenger Ms. Kim, 38, said, "When a passenger pointed out that it was Gimpo Airport, not Incheon Airport, the crew became wide-eyed and rather asked the passengers back," adding, "The crew was flustered after realizing it was Gimpo, while the passengers were in the situation of retrieving their luggage thinking they had arrived."
She continued, "They say the emergency landing at Gimpo was due to 'turbulence' or 'fuel shortage,' but there was no sign of fueling," and added, "There was no apology upon arriving at Incheon, either."
The in-flight announcement stated, "We made an emergency landing at Gimpo due to a fuel shortage" and that they were "currently checking whether to move to Incheon." However, it is said there was no explanation regarding the specific circumstances or time required.
Flight D7 506 stayed at Gimpo Airport for about two hours before taking off again around 10:03 p.m. and arrived at Incheon Airport around 10:56 p.m., approximately 50 minutes later.
Ms. Kim's husband, Mr. Choi, 44, stated, "There was no proper explanation given to the passengers about whether there was any urgent situation necessitating the emergency landing or how long it would take," and added, "I was quite displeased."
