The police provided a reward for reporting to a taxi driver who spotted a drunken driving vehicle and pursued it.
According to the Daejeon Police Agency on the 14th, at around 11:03 p.m. on the 4th of last month, taxi driver Mr. A noticed a vehicle behind him repeatedly flashing its high beams at an intersection in Yuseong District, Daejeon.
The vehicle continued to exhibit suspicious behavior, such as maintaining a significant distance from the vehicle in front while stopping for a traffic signal.
Earlier, taxi driver Mr. A took advantage of a brief moment when the vehicle stopped for a signal to ask driver Mr. B, 'What's going on?' Mr. B lowered his head and answered with glassy eyes, 'I'm sorry,' which convinced Mr. A that he was driving under the influence.
After reporting to 112, Mr. A shared his location in real time with the police while pursuing the vehicle. When the vehicle stopped at a red light, he went to the car in front of Mr. B and requested, 'Please do not move your vehicle, as the driver behind has been drinking.'
After pursuing for about 1.5 kilometers, Mr. A blocked the vehicle with his taxi, allowing the police who were following to apprehend Mr. B.
The investigation revealed that Mr. B's blood alcohol concentration was 0.132%, which is at the level for license revocation. The police sent Mr. B to the prosecution for violating traffic laws and provided a reward to Mr. A for his report.
