A driver in his 70s, isolated in an underpass in Uijeongbu due to heavy rains that fell on the 13th, was rescued by the police.
According to the Uijeongbu Police Station on the 14th, a report was received at around noon the previous day stating that the "underpass was flooded" in Yonghyeon-dong. Police arriving at the scene confirmed that the underpass was already filled with water up to chest height, with heavy rain pouring down ceaselessly.
Officer Jeong Min-ki from Songsan District received reports of a flooded SUV while installing a police line and blocking vehicle traffic. The inside of the vehicle was filled with water, and a man in his 70s, referred to as Mr. A, was sitting in the driver's seat, curled up with his lower body wet.
When Officer Jeong heard the driver say, "The door won't open," he immediately jumped into the water; however, he was unable to open the driver's door due to the pressure of the flooding.
Fortunately, he was able to open the backseat door, and Officer Jeong moved Mr. A to the backseat before safely rescuing him outside. The police handed the driver over to his family, and it is reported that the vehicle was addressed through the insurance company.
