An 80-year-old driver who went missing due to heavy rain has been found dead.
According to the Gimpo Fire Department, a report was received at 119 around 12:14 p.m. on the 13th that the vehicle driven by Mr. A (in his 80s) had vanished near Daebocheon in Gochon-eup, Gimpo.
Upon receiving the report, the fire authorities deployed rescue personnel and began a search.
About five hours later, around 5:55 p.m., the vehicle was found in Daebocheon; however, Mr. A was discovered dead in the back seat of the vehicle.
The fire authorities believe that the vehicle was swept away by floodwaters due to the heavy rain and are investigating the exact circumstances of the accident.
As of 6 p.m. on that day, the cumulative rainfall in Gimpo over the past 24 hours reached 232 mm.
The Korea Meteorological Administration issued a heavy rain warning for Gimpo at 9:30 a.m. that day, urging residents to take special care to prevent damage as strong rains are expected to continue through the next day, especially in the metropolitan area.
