The special investigation team has secured a statement that Kim Keon-hee received high-end watches worth tens of millions of won, and it is reported that they are concentrating their investigation on the related circumstances.
According to the legal community on the 11th, the special investigation team discovered a warranty for the luxury watch brand 'Vacheron Constantin' during a search of the residence of Ms. Kim's brother-in-law, Jin-woo Kim, on the 25th of last month. The investigation revealed that this watch was purchased by businessman Mo Seo at the brand's store in September 2022 and was directly handed to Ms. Kim at her home. Mo has reportedly stated that he only purchased it on Ms. Kim's request, and there was no intention of reciprocity.
However, the special investigation team is continuing the investigation, placing weight on the possibility that there was not merely a simple errand but rather an intention to solicit. In particular, they are noting that the timing of the watch's delivery coincides with the period when the company run by Mo was signing a pilot operation contract for 'robot dogs' with the Presidential Security Service. Mo also has a history of donating 10 million won to former President Yoon Suk-yeol during the presidential election in 2021.
In addition to the warranty discovered during the search, a Van Cleef & Arpels necklace and a painting suspected to be by artist Lee Ufan were also found. This necklace became a topic of discussion when Ms. Kim wore it during her visit to Spain for the NATO summit in June 2022, and following allegations of asset declaration omissions, recent bribery allegations have also emerged. The special investigation team has captured evidence that an employee of SEOHEE CONSTRUCTION purchased the same product shortly after the presidential election and conducted a search at the SEOHEE CONSTRUCTION headquarters the day before.
Regarding SEOHEE CONSTRUCTION, it has been reported that the circumstances surrounding the appointment of Park Seong-geun, who is the son-in-law of Chairman Lee Bong-gwan and a former prosecutor, as the chief secretary of the Prime Minister in June 2022 are also included in the investigation's target. SEOHEE CONSTRUCTION has stated, 'The questioned necklace has no relation to our company.'
