The Seoul city government announced on the 12th that it plans to install approximately 85,000 solar LED road marker lights on major arterial roads this year.
Solar LED road marker lights are facilities equipped with self-luminous features. They help drivers clearly see lane markings, even in rain or at night. Existing lane markings have faced issues where vehicle headlights do not properly reflect due to water pooling on the road during rainy conditions, making them hard to see.
In response, the Seoul city government is installing solar LED road marker lights that remain visible even when submerged. So far, about 45,000 have been installed on roads such as Olympic Boulevard and Seongsan Road. The plan is to complete installations over approximately 160 kilometers of driving lanes on arterial roads in the future.
The initial installation areas include central lines and driving lanes, bus-only lanes, bicycle-only lanes, and crosswalks on major arterial roads. Priority will be given to installation at large intersections with six or more lanes that handle heavy vehicle traffic.
Han Byeong-yong, head of the Disaster Safety Office at the Seoul city government, noted, "We expect that solar LED road marker lights will help prevent traffic accidents for citizens," adding, "We will continue to expand the lane visibility improvement project."
