The Ministry of Employment and Labor is currently conducting a search and seizure of POSCO E&C, where an accident involving foreign workers occurred on the 12th.
The Ministry of Employment and Labor noted that along with the police, they have been conducting searches at the headquarters of POSCO E&C and the subcontractor's office and site office since 9 a.m. today.
This search and seizure is related to the electrocution accident that occurred on the 4th. Earlier, a worker surnamed A, a 30-something national from Myanmar, was presumed to have been electrocuted at about 1:34 p.m. on the 4th while checking a pump installed in an underground water puddle at the construction site of the Gwangmyeong–Seoul Highway extension.
The Ministry of Employment and Labor plans to focus on whether adequate safety measures were implemented to prevent risks from electrical leakage during this search. They will also seek to identify the cause of the accident based on the evidence collected and confirm whether there were violations of the Occupational Safety and Health Act.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Employment and Labor will hold an urgent joint investigation strategy meeting with local offices concerning the POSCO Group in the morning. This is to share issues of investigation related to major accidents that occurred within the POSCO Group and to establish strategies for future investigations.
