At around 11:05 a.m. on the 12th, a large sinkhole measuring 5 meters deep and 1 meter wide occurred on the road in front of Jeongman at the Dawon Market in Sasang-gu, Busan.
The rear wheel of a passing 1-ton truck fell into the sinkhole, but the driver is reported to have not been seriously injured. The fire authorities immediately dispatched to the scene to take safety measures.
The affected area is near the construction site of the Busan Urban Railway Sasang-Hadan Line, where sinkholes have occurred 14 times over the past three years.
In September last year, the Busan City Audit Committee announced the results of an audit stating that, in addition to heavy rainfall, poor construction and supervision were major causes of the sinkholes.
Afterward, the Busan City Government and the Busan Transportation Corporation prepared road management measures, but concerns among nearby residents are growing as large sinkholes continue to occur.
