The police have named former U.S. Department of State International Criminal Justice Ambassador Dan Hyun-myung (known as Mos Tan in Korean), who has been raising false claims related to President Lee Jae-myung, as a suspect and stated that they will investigate upon his entry into the country.
A Seoul police department official said at a regular press briefing on the 11th that Tan had been named as a suspect for defamation at the end of last month and that they requested the Ministry of Justice to 'notify upon entry.' Accordingly, if Ambassador Tan re-enters Korea, the fact will be automatically reported to the police.
Ambassador Tan, who is also a professor at Liberty University in the U.S., served as ambassador during the Trump administration's first term. He is accused of making false statements during a press conference organized by the International Election Monitoring Group held at the National Press Building in Washington, D.C., last June.
He has been accused by the civic group Freedom Korea Patriot Group of publicizing false claims that President Lee was involved in crimes during his youth. It is also reported that he repeated similar claims during his visit to Korea last month.
