A fire in an apartment in Daegu has claimed the lives of three family members. Police are investigating the incident as a suspected arson.
According to police and fire authorities on the 10th, the fire broke out around 3:35 a.m. on the 11th floor of an apartment in Sincheon-dong, Dong-gu, Daegu.
Firefighters from 119 responded to the fire report and managed to extinguish the flames within 19 minutes.
However, three family members were found dead at the scene. Among the victims, two were teenage children and one was a mother in her 40s. The children were discovered inside the apartment, while the mother was found having fallen outside the balcony.
The father of the deceased family was reportedly not at the fire scene at the time.
Additionally, three residents from the same apartment suffered minor injuries from smoke inhalation, and 20 others evacuated on their own.
The police are examining the possibility that the fire may have been intentionally set, as there were multiple points of origin within the apartment, and are investigating the exact circumstances of the fire in conjunction with fire authorities.
