The government and 40 medical colleges have established guidelines for revising medical school regulations that double the maximum credits that can be earned during the seasonal semester. Previously, a maximum of 6 credits could be taken, but it has been increased to 12 credits, providing a way to make up for credits not completed in the first semester.
According to the education sector on the 7th, the Ministry of Education and the Council of Deans for the Advancement of Medical Schools (Deans' Council), along with the Korean Association of Medical Colleges and Graduate Schools (KAMC), delivered guidelines for 'medical student return and education operation' nationwide to the 40 medical colleges on the 1st.
These guidelines allow pre-medical students to complete the academic deficiencies from the first semester this year before advancing to the main program through additional courses in the seasonal semester and the second semester.
Students in the first and second years of the main program are encouraged to fulfill any insufficient credits by utilizing the vacation periods before graduation.
To this end, the Ministry of Education and others have advised each medical college to increase the maximum credits that can be earned per semester, including during the seasonal semester.
A proposed method for increasing credits is to change the maximum credits that can be earned during the seasonal semester from the existing 6 credits to 12 credits.
Additionally, in order to facilitate the return of students who were retained in the first semester, a method of adjusting 'grade retention' to 'semester retention' was suggested. Subsequently, for these students, the first-semester grades will not be included in the calculation of grade point averages, temporarily.
