A camper's act of illegally drawing electricity from a public restroom has caused public outrage online.
On the 6th, a post titled 'This is why campers are being criticized' was uploaded to the online community BobaeDream.
The post included a photo of a camper parked in front of the public restroom at Daepo Port in Sokcho, Gangwon Province. The camper's owner was charging their vehicle using an outlet inside the restroom.
The author, a person surnamed A, noted, 'The vehicle in the photo was plugged into the public restroom's outlet to draw electricity for the vehicle,' adding, 'It's a clear case of electricity theft.'
They further pointed out, 'It's really surprising how boldly the vehicle owner is using electricity,' and mentioned, 'Recently, articles about illegal electricity use have been frequently appearing in the media, and this is an issue that can actually lead to punishment.'
They stated, 'Illegal use of public electricity can be punished under theft laws, and such acts violate social public resources,' and added, 'Due to these acts, all well-behaved campers and car campers are being unfairly criticized, leading to an increase in camping bans or forced crackdowns.'
In response, netizens expressed negative reactions such as 'Camper poor,' 'This should be reported,' 'Don't cause trouble and stay home,' 'You have money to buy a camper but not to charge it,' and 'Isn't that theft?'
Meanwhile, under current law, using electricity from a public facility without payment authorization can be subject to charges of theft.
