As the police have reportedly identified Pastor Jeon Kwang-hoon of Sarang Jeil Church as behind the violent riot at the Western Seoul District Court, it has also been reported that Jeon is under investigation for embezzlement for allegedly using church funds for unauthorized purposes.
According to police and others on the 7th, police are applying charges of embezzlement in the course of duty against Pastor Jeon and are looking into the related suspicions.
It is reported that Sarang Jeil Church sent 300,000 won each month to the accounts of over 60 individuals who participated in the riot incident at the Western District Court since February. The police are examining whether Pastor Jeon may have used church finances to provide monetary support to those implicated individuals.
On the 5th, police conducted searches of Sarang Jeil Church and seven individuals, including Pastor Jeon, searching for materials related to the embezzlement allegations stored on Pastor Jeon's mobile phone and PC. Additionally, it is known that a bank account under the name of Sarang Jeil Church was also examined at Pastor Jeon's residence.
