On the 7th, the special investigation team for the marine who died in service summoned former Marine Corps 1st Division Commander Im Seong-geun for a second time.
The special investigation team summoned the former commander as a suspect around 9:50 a.m. that day on charges of professional negligence resulting in death.
The special investigation team plans to investigate the professional negligence resulting in death charges against the former commander, as well as the "lobbying for rescue" allegations.
The lobbying for rescue allegations involve suspicions that participants in the group chat of the "stylish marines," including Lee Jong-ho, the former CEO of Black Pearl Investment, a key figure in the Deutsch Motors stock manipulation case, engaged in lobbying efforts to aid the former commander.
The former commander is the leader of the late Corporal Chae Soo-geun, who drowned while searching for missing persons in Yecheon County, North Gyeongsang Province, in July 2023. He is facing charges (professional negligence resulting in death) related to issuing instructions for underwater searches that contributed to the corporal's death.
Earlier, the former commander appeared as a suspect before the special investigation team on the 2nd of last month and was investigated. He has been retired since February of this year.
