The special investigation team is expected to summon Speaker Woo Won-sik on the 7th and People Power Party member Cho Gyeong-tae on the 11th as witnesses, it was reported on the 5th.
Special investigator Park Ji-young noted during a media briefing that "the special investigation team requested cooperation in the investigation from Speaker Woo, who is a victim and representative of the institution that lifted the unconstitutional and unlawful state of emergency, and negotiations on the timing and method have been underway." He added, "Speaker Woo has agreed to appear in person at the special investigation office on the 7th, and therefore, the special investigation team requested his attendance at 10 a.m."
The special investigation team is expected to investigate the situation in the National Assembly before and after the vote on the resolution demanding the lifting of the state of emergency early on December 4th last year targeting Speaker Woo.
Speaker Woo stated through Facebook that "in support and respect for the mission and role of the special investigation team, I decided to attend in person." He continued, "The special investigation into the coup involves the public's demand to uncover the truth of that day to restore the country and democracy," adding, "In particular, as the representative of the agency that was victimized by the armed forces during the state of emergency and as the principal actor who lifted the state of emergency in accordance with the will of the people, I believe the Speaker should take the lead in uncovering that truth."
Additionally, Special Investigator Park noted that he requested People Power Party member Cho Gyeong-tae to appear for the witness investigation on the 11th.
Member Cho is one of the 18 People Power Party members who participated in the vote on the resolution to lift the state of emergency in the National Assembly on December 4th last year. At that time, the resolution was passed with 190 members present and 190 votes in favor, while 90 out of 108 People Power Party members did not participate.
It is reported that the special investigation team plans to investigate the circumstances under which many People Power Party members were unable to attend the vote.
