A video of a delivery worker crossing a road flooded to waist height after heavy rain in Gwangju Metropolitan City has become a hot topic online.
Mr. A, who operates a salad shop in Gwangju, posted on Instagram on the 3rd, along with the video, that he is looking for the legendary delivery person who picked up the delivery despite the water reaching his waist.
The video captures the delivery worker who came to deliver salad to Mr. A's shop on the 17th of last month when heavy rain fell. The delivery person in the video made his way toward the shop even as the road was submerged, and muddy water rose to his waist.
After receiving the food, he raised it to shoulder height to prevent it from getting wet and crossed the flooded road again. He later returned on his motorcycle and successfully delivered the food.
Mr. A said, "I want to find you because I'm so grateful, and if you are the one in this video, I will treat you as a VIP at the salad shop."
In response, the delivery worker explained the incident directly in the comments. He stated, "It happened on July 17th, the day when about 400mm of rain fell in Gwangju City, in front of the main gate of Chonnam National University."
"I had to pick up the delivery, but because the road was flooded and motorcycles couldn't pass at all, I had no choice but to cross a road flooded to my waist," he noted. "The current was quite strong, and if I lost my focus, I could have been swept away. The police even told me not to cross again, but I went back to deliver the food to the customer," he said. The delivery expense was reported to be 7,000 won.
"I felt like I did what I had to do, but I was surprised when a friend sent me the video," he added. "I am safely alive."
Users who saw the video commented, "The work ethic is incredible," expressing support for the delivery worker, while also voicing concerns such as, "Shouldn't hazard pay be provided on such days? It looks too dangerous."
