The police will receive evaluations from citizens before finalizing the selection of the newly introduced uniforms.
The Korean National Police Agency announced on the 5th that it will hold a public evaluation event at the police agency auditorium on the 11th. Additionally, an online evaluation event for police officers and citizens will take place from the 6th to the 12th.
The police are producing new uniforms for the first time in 10 years to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the police force. Since the 24th of last month, the Korean National Police Agency has been holding uniform evaluation events across 18 provincial police agencies, during which negative public opinion emerged regarding photos of the prototypes being worn.
Accordingly, this evaluation event is interpreted as a measure to strengthen the public opinion collection process. A police official noted, "We decided to broadly gather opinions online to address the complaints of field officers who could not participate in the physical evaluation and to alleviate public concerns about some prototype photos leaked in internet communities."
The police plan to select a basic proposal based on evaluation scores of 2 to 3 prototype items for each category, including ▲ police jumpers ▲ field uniforms (hats and vests) ▲ tactical uniforms.
Citizens wishing to participate can access a link posted on the Korean National Police Agency website or social media (SNS) to evaluate the prototypes. They can also participate in a survey about police uniform improvements on the 'People's Plaza,' the public communication platform of the Lee Jae-myung government.
The results of the physical and online evaluations will be announced on the 18th. Based on the selected basic proposal, design enhancements and trials will be conducted, with the final proposal being revealed on Police Day on October 21.
