On the 5th, the police conducted a search and seizure at the Sarang Jeil Church, which is under suspicion of being related to the violent riot at the Seoul Western District Court that occurred last January.
The Security Investigation Division 1 of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency stated that from the morning of the 5th, it had been conducting a search and seizure against the Sarang Jeil Church in Seongbuk-gu, Seoul, and Pastor Jeon Gwang-hoon on charges including instigation of trespassing into a special building. Pastor Jeon is suspected of being behind the violent riot at the Western District Court.
Previously, the Security Investigation Division had received multiple complaints alleging that Pastor Jeon had incited attendees of a rally to cause the violent riot at the Western District Court and formed a dedicated team to analyze Pastor Jeon's statements made at the rally and investigate related individuals, including a special pastor involved in the riot.
On January 19th, shortly after the Seoul Western District Court issued an arrest warrant requested by the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials for former President Yoon Suk-yeol, dozens of individuals broke into the court's premises, damaging the office and property, searching the interior, and attempting arson, and they were subsequently charged with illegal violent acts.
The special pastor of the church, surnamed Yoon (56), and surnamed Lee (48), who were indicted for charges including trespassing into the court, were recently sentenced to 3 years and 6 months in prison and 3 years in prison, respectively, in the first trial.
