Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (HUFS) will establish a new campus in Songdo International City, Incheon. Some of the admissions quota from HUFS's Global Campus in Yongin will be selected from the Songdo Campus.
According to HUFS on the 5th, the Ministry of Education's College Establishment and Reorganization Review Committee approved the plan for establishing the Songdo Campus on the 1st.
The Songdo Campus will be built on a site of 43,595 square meters (approximately 13,188 pyeong), the size of six soccer fields, consisting of two buildings. It is planned to select 100 students each year using part of the existing Global Campus admissions quota. The Global Bio & Business Convergence Department and the Foreigners' Free Major Department will be newly established.
The Global Bio & Business Convergence Department will be established to respond to the workforce demand of bio corporations in the Songdo area. The goal is to cultivate converged practical talents who can lead bio business in the global market.
The Foreigners' Free Major Department will be created based on the management and education system for international students that HUFS has. It aims to achieve proficiency in Korean language and Korean studies, cultivating foreign talents.
To establish the Songdo Campus, HUFS completed the first phase of construction of the HUFS International Education Center in 2019. The ongoing second phase complex construction is expected to be completed by the end of this month.
A representative of HUFS stated, "The Songdo Campus will operate as an independent campus capable of development based on close ties with the local community and industry," adding, "We will prepare a detailed academic operation system to strive for a successful opening in 2027."
