Actor Song Young-kyu (55), who gained attention for his role as Chief Choi in the movie 'Extreme Job', has been found dead, and the police are investigating.
According to the Yongin Dongbu Police Station on the 4th, a friend discovered Song dead in a vehicle in a housing complex in Cheoin District, Yongin City, around 8 a.m. that day and reported it.
There were no signs of foul play, and it is known that no suicide note was found. The police plan to investigate the circumstances of Song's death with his bereaved family.
Song made his debut in 1994 with the children's musical 'Mutter Dosa'. He gained attention for his role as Chief Choi in the 2019 film 'Extreme Job'. He also appeared in the Netflix drama 'Suriname' and the Disney Plus drama 'Casino'.
Recently, he appeared in the play 'Shakespeare in Love', which is being staged at the Seoul Arts Center until September 14. In addition, he appeared in the ENA drama 'iShopping' as a pastor 'Yoon Se-hoon' and in the SBS drama 'Try: We Become a Miracle' as rugby club director Kim Min-jung.
However, it was revealed late that Song was caught driving under the influence on the 25th of last month, resulting in edited footage in the drama and his withdrawal from the play.
Earlier, Song was caught driving under the influence after having drinks with acquaintances around 11 p.m. on June 19, driving approximately 5 km from Giheung District to Cheoin District, and was sent to the prosecution without detention at the end of last month.
At that time, it was investigated that Song drove while returning home after having drinks with acquaintances. Song's blood alcohol level at the time of the incident was at a level that would lead to license cancellation (over 0.08%). Police responded to a report that "a person who has been drinking appears to be driving a vehicle" and apprehended Song at the scene.
Once the news of the drunk driving was reported, Song told a media outlet, "I am really sorry. I think I was crazy. I ruined everything with a moment's mistake," adding, "I initially called for a ride, but while chatting with a friend at a convenience store, the driver left. I made the wrong decision and drove myself despite it being less than a 5-minute distance to my home."
Song's mortuary has been set up in Room 1 of the funeral hall at Davos Hospital in Yongin City. The funeral is scheduled for 8 a.m. on the 6th, and the burial site is Hambeaksan Memorial Park.
