The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced on the 4th that from July 17 to August 3, 54,686 volunteers visited five disaster-affected areas, including Gwangju, Gyeonggi Province, South Chungcheong Province, North Jeolla Province, and South Gyeongsang Province, to engage in recovery activities.
By region, South Chungcheong had the most volunteers at 24,422, followed by South Gyeongsang (14,500), Gyeonggi (10,683), Gwangju (1,758), and North Jeolla (1,717).
In addition to the volunteers, 45,735 military personnel have also been deployed to the disaster areas to assist with recovery efforts.
The Ministry requested that government departments and public institutions actively participate in recovery volunteer work until the 14th in consideration of the increased demand for personnel to organize farms and agricultural land due to the full-scale recovery efforts. It also plans to maintain a cooperation system with local governments and national volunteer centers.
General citizens wishing to participate in volunteer activities can select disaster areas on the 1365 Volunteer Portal website and engage in recovery activities.
Minister Yun Ho-jung said, "We will do our best to ensure that volunteers can work safely and that the daily lives of affected residents can be restored as quickly as possible."
