A suspect accused of murdering his son with a homemade firearm in Songdo, Incheon, was found to be below the criteria for psychopathy in a pre-assessment for antisocial personality disorder (psychopathy).
A police official noted during a regular press briefing on 4th that the results of a profiler interview indicated that the suspect did not qualify for the psychopathy test, so a full assessment was not conducted.
The official stated, "Crime analysts assess 20 items through interviews, and only if the score is above 25 out of 40 is the individual deemed a high-risk group and subjected to the psychopathy test," adding that the suspect did not meet this standard.
The psychopathy diagnostic test, which quantifies personality traits such as coldness, impulsivity, and irresponsibility, consists of 20 questions. In Korea, a score above 25 out of 40 classifies an individual as a psychopath. According to police, the suspect in the Incheon Songdo homemade firearm case scored below 25.
The police official further stated that in response to a question regarding the power of the explosives installed by the suspect at his residence in Ssangmun-dong, Dobong-gu, Seoul, "We consulted the National Forensic Service, but the current opinion from the agency is that they cannot provide a definitive answer," adding that a conclusive answer cannot be given until the assessment results are accurately determined.
The suspect, identified as A (62), is accused of shooting and killing B, who had organized a birthday party for him, at around 9:31 p.m. on the 20th of last month, in his apartment on the 33rd floor of a building in Songdo-dong, Yeonsu-gu, Incheon. It has been reported that B's wife, their two children, and acquaintances were present at the gathering.
At A's home in Dobong-gu, Seoul, where he was caught after fleeing the scene, 15 flammable materials including bottles of thinner, detergent containers, and milk cartons were found, and it was revealed that a timer was set to ignite the explosives at noon on the 21st, the day after the murder.
