Tottenham Hotspur captain Son Heung-min is leaving the team. It has been 10 years since he joined Tottenham in August 2015.
Son Heung-min revealed before a press conference for the 2025 Coupang Play Series held at the IFC The Forum in Yeongdeungpo, Seoul, that "I have decided to leave the team this summer."
Son Heung-min's contract with Tottenham runs until the summer of 2026. The second re-signing agreement made in July 2021 was set to last until this summer, but the club exercised the one-year extension option included in the contract last January.
Son Heung-min, who made his professional debut in Germany and joined Tottenham in August 2015, became the top scorer in the English Premier League (EPL) for the 2021-2022 season and led the UEFA Europa League victory in the 2024-2025 season.
Son Heung-min is set to face Newcastle United in a friendly match of the Coupang Play Series at Seoul World Cup Stadium on the evening of the 3rd. This match in Korea is expected to be Son Heung-min's farewell game for Tottenham.
Son Heung-min is currently being tight-lipped about his future destination. Speculation suggests that his next move may be to the United States or the Saudi Arabian league.
