Minister Chung Sung-ho expressed regret over former President Yoon Suk-yeol's refusal to be arrested while lying down without wearing prison clothing, stating it was "an act worse than that of gangsters."
Minister Chung wrote on his Facebook on the morning of the 2nd, "It is too embarrassing and bizarre to believe that these are the actions of a former prosecutor, former chief prosecutor, and former president." He added, "It is even shameful to utter such words." He continued, "An act worse than that of gangsters, disregarding the rule of law and diminishing the dignity of the nation, must not be tolerated. We must not bring any more shame to the people."
The investigation team led by Kim Keon-hee attempted to execute a warrant for the arrest of former President Yoon on the morning of the previous day but ultimately failed after about two hours of standoff. According to the team, former President Yoon steadfastly refused to comply with the execution of the warrant while lying on the floor without wearing prison clothing.
Minister Chung stated, "As the Minister of Justice, I will actively review and implement the necessary strong measures to ensure that the Constitution and the rule of law can function properly," and added, "I will ensure that strict and fair law enforcement applies to detainees by addressing the shortcomings in arrest regulations, and I will take corrective measures to prevent preferential visits from happening again."
With the expiration date of the arrest warrant approaching on the 7th, the investigation team is expected to attempt re-execution soon. During a briefing the previous day, the team announced, "We informed former President Yoon that physical force would be included in the execution next time."
