Former President Yoon Suk-yeol's side submitted a letter of appointment to the special prosecutor team investigating allegations related to Kim Keon-hee and has officially begun responding to the investigation.
According to the legal community and others on the 2nd, lawyers Kim Hong-il (15th Judicial Research and Training Institute) and Bae Bo-yoon (20th) submitted a letter of appointment to the special prosecutor team as attorneys for President Yoon on the previous day, the 1st. With former President Yoon submitting the letter of appointment to the Kim Keon-hee special prosecutor team, it seems that responses such as submitting opinions and coordinating summons investigations will take place.
Lawyer Kim has acted as the leader of the legal team responding to the charges of insurrection related to former President Yoon's state of emergency on Dec. 3. Lawyer Bae is also part of the legal team addressing charges of insurrection and others.
The Kim Keon-hee special prosecutor team attempted to summon him for questioning on the 29th and 30th of last month, but former President Yoon did not appear, citing a serious deterioration in health that rendered him unable to move. The special prosecutor team reported that they confirmed former President Yoon's intent to refuse summons and requested an arrest warrant, which was issued on the 30th of last month. The special prosecutor team attempted to execute the arrest warrant at the Seoul Detention Center, where former President Yoon is being held the previous day, but the attempt was thwarted as he refused to come out of his solitary confinement.
Former President Yoon has been unresponsive to the declaration investigation conducted by the insurrection special prosecutor team and the ongoing insurrection trial at the Seoul Central District Court since being detained on the 10th of last month.
Former President Yoon is accused of assisting former People Power Party lawmaker Kim Young-sun in receiving a nomination during a by-election held in the same year in exchange for receiving public opinion surveys free of charge from Mr. Myung during the 2022 presidential election process. Mr. Myung is reported to have conducted illegal public opinion surveys on 81 occasions.
He is also accused of violating the Public Official Election Act by disseminating false information regarding the allegations of Kim Keon-hee's involvement in stock price manipulation of Deutsch Motors during a People Power Party primary debate in October 2021, stating, "I entrusted it for about four months, and there was a loss."
