Kim Keon-hee's special investigation team attempted to execute an arrest warrant against former President Yoon Suk-yeol on the morning of the 1st, but it was unsuccessful.
The special investigation team noted, "The execution of the arrest warrant against former President Yoon could not be completed due to the person's strong refusal."
The special investigation team visited the Seoul Detention Center around 9 a.m. on the same day to summon former President Yoon to the special investigation office. For the execution of the arrest warrant that day, the team deployed Special Investigator Moon Hong-joo, one prosecutor affiliated with the team, and one investigator. They planned to first encourage former President Yoon to attend, and if he refused, to proceed with the arrest. However, the summoning ultimately fell through as former President Yoon refused the arrest.
Earlier, the special investigation team attempted to summon him on the 29th and 30th of the previous month, but former President Yoon did not attend, citing health deterioration. In response, the special investigation team filed for an arrest warrant on the 30th, and the court issued the warrant on the morning of the 31st. The deadline for the arrest warrant is until the 7th.
Former President Yoon is accused of violating the Public Official Election Act for allegedly helping Kim Young-sun, a former member of the People Power Party, to obtain a party nomination in the by-election held in the same year, in exchange for receiving a public opinion poll for free from the 'political broker' Myung Tae-kyun during the 2022 presidential election process.
Meanwhile, former President Yoon has been detained at the Seoul Detention Center since the 10th in connection with a rebellion special investigation into the martial law-related internal and external crisis. He has refused to attend both the rebellion special investigation and the trial since his detention.
