On the 30th, the Marine Corps special investigation team announced that they identified former President Yoon Suk-yeol and Kim Keon-hee as also having used a non-disclosure phone.
During a morning briefing, Special Investigator Jeong Min-young stated, "We plan to receive communication records from the non-disclosure phone of former President Yoon and Mrs. Kim, among others, from the military and the Presidential Security Service," adding, "We will analyze the communication records from the period suspected of external pressure on the investigation into the death of Corporal Chae and proceed with our investigation."
Special Investigator Jeong noted, "It appears that Mrs. Kim used the non-disclosure phone issued to her," and added, "We expect to receive all non-disclosure phone communication records this week from not only former President Yoon and Mrs. Kim but also former National Intelligence Service Director Cho Tae-yong, former Minister of National Defense Lee Jong-seop, and former Marine Corps 1st Division Commander Lim Sung-keun."
It was also reported that the special investigation team secured a statement from former Director Cho acknowledging the 'VIP anger theory.' The 'VIP anger theory' suggests that former President Yoon became enraged after being briefed on the investigation results of Corporal Chae's death during a chief secretaries meeting at the presidential office on July 31, 2023, and subsequently ordered the former minister to suddenly halt media briefings and postpone police referrals.
With this, the number of people acknowledging the 'VIP anger theory' has increased to five, including former Director Cho. Previously, it was known that former Marine Corps Commander Kim Gye-hwan, former First Deputy Director of the National Security Office Kim Tae-hyo, former Diplomatic Secretary of the National Security Office Lee Chung-myeon, and former Economic Security Secretary Wang Yun-jong also acknowledged the 'VIP anger theory' during their summons for investigation.
