An accident occurred at Daejeon Hanwha Life Ballpark, the home stadium of the Hanwha Eagles, where some installations fell, leading the city of Daejeon to conduct an emergency safety inspection.
According to Daejeon city on the 30th, the city conducted an emergency inspection of the stadium facilities starting from the 28th, with about 30 participants including the construction company Kyeryong Construction and officials from the Hanwha Eagles. The inspection team focused on verifying the condition of objects, structures, and attachments at risk of falling.
On the 27th, a bolt connection part of a sign fell at Daejeon Hanwha Life Ballpark. The accident occurred about 40 minutes before the start of a game against SSG Landers. Approximately 17,000 attendees came to the stadium that day, setting a full-capacity crowd record. Fortunately, there were no casualties.
Since its opening this year, Hanwha Life Ballpark has faced multiple safety issues, including water from the stadium's swimming pool falling onto the audience and glass windows breaking from foul balls.
After completing the emergency inspection, the city plans to coordinate with the Hanwha Eagles to conduct a detailed safety inspection by the 15th of next month, ensuring that the overall safety status is reviewed to prevent disruptions in game operations.
The city plans to identify and strengthen safety threats, including installation failures, leakage issues, and the installation of foul ball nets. Once all inspections and reinforcements are completed, stadium management will be transferred from the city of Daejeon to the Hanwha Eagles.
A representative from the city said, 'The management of the stadium is the responsibility of the user, the Hanwha Eagles,' adding that 'it is judged that the team, which has overall operating authority, should be responsible for the maintenance of the stadium.'
