A woman in her 40s, who claimed to have been subjected to surveillance, intimidation, hacking, and sexual harassment by actor Gong Yoo, was sentenced to a suspended prison term for writing hundreds of posts and comments.
According to a report by Yonhap News on the 30th, the Daejeon District Court Criminal Division 5 Judge Jang Won-ji sentenced Ms. A (48) to six months in prison, suspended for two years, on the 18th for violating the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection (defamation).
Ms. A continuously left comments stating that she was threatened by Gong Yoo during a live broadcast of an internet portal site held by Gong Yoo in January 2020. She was indicted for posting defamatory comments and posts about Gong Yoo a total of 235 times until March 2021.
It was investigated that Ms. A had never experienced any illegal acts from Gong Yoo and that she did not personally know him.
The court stated, "Even considering that the victim is a celebrity who receives public attention, the fact that false information was continuously disseminated over a long period shows malicious intent," and noted that they took into account the admission of the crime and her commitment to hospital treatment.
