A man in his 20s who killed his ex-girlfriend, a woman in her 30s, with a weapon in Goejeong-dong, Seo-gu, Daejeon, was urgently arrested about 24 hours after fleeing.
The Daejeon Western Police Station announced on the 30th that it had arrested a man in his 20s, identified as A, on murder charges. The police apprehended A around noon that day in an underpass in Sanseong-dong, Jung-gu, Daejeon, while he was fleeing in a vehicle. It was reported that A attempted to take poison while in the car before being arrested, but his life is not in danger.
A is suspected of killing a woman identified as B in her 30s by wielding a weapon on the street in front of her residence in Goejeong-dong, Seo-gu, Daejeon, around 12:08 p.m. on the previous day. B was transported to a nearby hospital in a cardiac arrest state by the responding fire rescue team but ultimately died.
A had been reported to the 112 Situation Room four times for various reasons, including the assault of B, between last November and last month. Last month, he assaulted B and caused a disturbance at a convenience store near her residence.
A left his mobile phone at the crime scene. The police confirmed that A and B were former lovers based on this and other evidence. They also inquired into A's whereabouts through his family and acquaintances.
The police have been tracking A's movements after his escape following the crime using closed-circuit (CC) TV footage. It is said that A alternated between using a car and a motorcycle during his flight. The police plan to ascertain the details of A's motives for the crime following his arrest.
