Three nurses have been referred to prosecutors on charges of abusing a newborn hospitalized in the intensive care unit of Daegu Catholic University Medical Center.
The Daegu Metropolitan Police Agency's Women and Youth Crime Investigation Unit noted that the three nurses were sent to prosecutors without detention on the 24th on charges of newborn abuse (violations of the Child Welfare Act and physical abuse, etc.) on the 30th. The police conducted an investigation involving five nurses, but only three were referred to the prosecutors. The police decided not to send the Daegu Catholic University Medical Center case to the prosecutors.
The nurses are accused of abusing newborns hospitalized in the intensive care unit of Daegu Catholic University Medical Center multiple times from October last year to March this year. It has been reported that one of the three accused has been dismissed by the hospital. The other two are also said to have been placed on forced leave.
One of the nurses took a photo of a hospitalized newborn sitting on her knee and posted it on her social media (SNS) with the caption "I feel like I'm going to drop him." Other nurses also posted photos of newborns on their SNS with captions such as "Seeing him scream, I guess he can be discharged tomorrow. Why did he come... As soon as he arrived, he made me angry." "The reason why original sin is right is that all the other babies are quiet, but since the day I came to work, he has been crying for me to hold him." "He really has a bad temper, like OO." "I didn't calm him down when he cried. He was quiet, so I thought he was okay." "Thanks for crying."
