The Special Investigation Team stated that it plans to summon the former National Intelligence Service Director, Cho Tae-yong, who is known to have attended the 'VIP anger theory' meeting, as a suspect on the morning of the 29th.
On the 28th, Special Prosecutor Jeong Min-young noted in a briefing, "Former Director Cho will be summoned as a suspect on the morning of the 29th at 9:30 a.m. on charges of abuse of power."
Special Prosecutor Jeong stated, "The overall investigation will focus on how the results of the initial investigation into the death of Cha Sang-byeong were reported to former President Yoon Suk-yeol, the reaction of former President Yoon upon receiving that report, what directives he issued, and how those directives impacted the investigation results."
Former Director Cho became the subject of investigation as the Special Investigation Team seeks to clarify the 'VIP anger theory.' It is alleged that former President Yoon became enraged after receiving a report on the results of the investigation into the death of Cha Haebyeong at a meeting of senior secretaries in the presidential office at 11 a.m. on July 31, 2023, and that former Minister of National Defense Lee Jong-seop suddenly instructed a media briefing and the suspension of police transfer. Former Deputy Minister Cho is reported to have attended that meeting.
The Special Investigation Team is planning to summon former Deputy Minister Heo Tae-keun, who was questioned on the 25th, again at 2 p.m. on the same day. Special Prosecutor Jeong noted, "We decided to reconvene due to additional information that needs to be confirmed following the previous investigation." Former Deputy Minister Heo was present when former Minister of National Defense Lee Jong-seop was reporting the contents of the presidential meeting in which the 'VIP anger theory' arose.
Meanwhile, the Special Investigation Team summoned former Military Advisor Park Jin-hee in the morning and is currently conducting the investigation. It is reported that former Advisor Park was also present with former Deputy Minister Heo at the time when they were receiving the reports from the presidential meeting.
