A female internet broadcaster in her 40s was caught by police after drinking until dawn and going live on a highway while driving under the influence during the day.
The Busan Police Agency's highway patrol team stated on the 28th that they are investigating a person surnamed A, having registered her as a non-custodial suspect for violating the Road Traffic Act. A is suspected of driving her vehicle from Daegu to Busan on the afternoon of the 25th with a blood alcohol concentration at a level that would result in a license suspension.
According to police investigations, A drank two bottles of soju alone at a noraebang (singing room) until early morning. After resting at home for about half a day, she took the wheel around noon with the destination set for Taejongdae in Yeongdo District, Busan, where a friend was located.
While broadcasting live in a state of hangover, A mentioned her drinking and drove over 90 km on highways such as the Namhae Expressway. Police received a report about her drunk driving from a viewer watching the broadcast, confirmed A's vehicle, and began to pursue her. Simultaneously, a 112 command center officer subscribed to the broadcast channel and shared her real-time movement route with the patrol car. Police discovered A's vehicle at the Daesong Interchange on the Namhae Expressway and directed her to stop near Mora-dong, Sasang District.
A has reportedly not disclosed the exact motive for her drunk driving. However, police are investigating the situation, believing that she undertook such actions due to the number of viewers.
