The suspect in the murder of a woman in her 50s that occurred at a senior protection center in Uijeongbu City on the 26th was found dead.
On the 27th, the Uijeongbu Police Department reported that a hiker discovered the body of a man in his 60s, identified as Mr. A, at the Suraaksan hiking trail around 10:30 a.m.
Earlier, around 5:10 p.m. on the 26th, a woman in her 50s, identified as Ms. B, who was working alone at the senior protection center in Uijeongbu, was found stabbed by a colleague. The police considered Mr. A, who had been reported for stalking after approaching Ms. B, a prime suspect and had been tracking his whereabouts.
Mr. A had been continuously contacting and visiting Ms. B since March of this year, engaging in stalking, during which three reports were filed with the police. In particular, on the 20th of this month, he was arrested as a criminal while visiting Ms. B's home. Subsequently, the police applied for emergency protective measures and provisional measures; the emergency measures were approved afterward, but the provisional measures were rejected by the prosecutor.
While the main contents of the emergency protective measures and provisional measures are similar, it is known that the provisional measures apply to more serious cases and have stringent procedures and requirements.
Ms. B was provided with a smartwatch and safety patrols as protective measures, but it was determined that there were no emergency calls through the smartwatch on the day of the incident.
