In a case where a man in his 70s wielded a weapon against other elderly men at a temple in Gil-eum-dong, Seongbuk-gu, Seoul, police are investigating the precise circumstances, keeping in mind the possibility that the background of the incident involved betting on Go.
According to police and fire authorities on the 26th, two men in their 80s and 60s were transported to the hospital after being stabbed during the incident that occurred at 7:37 p.m. the previous day (25th) on the stairs of the temple building. The suspect, a man in his 70s known as Mr. A, also sustained injuries presumed to be self-inflicted to his abdomen.
The two victims were reported to have sustained injuries to their chest and hands but are currently conscious after undergoing surgery. In contrast, Mr. A has not yet regained consciousness.
Police plan to begin investigations with the victims who have regained consciousness and individuals present at the temple, as there is a possibility that Mr. A committed the crime while playing Go for bets with the victims. At the time of the incident, card games and a bottle of alcohol were also found at the temple, although it is reported that the involved parties typically did not play card games.
