The family of a son who was shot by a homemade firearm fired by his father in Songdo, Incheon, stated to the police that they do not understand the reason behind the perpetrator's actions.
According to the Incheon Yeonsu Police Station on the 25th, the family of B (33), who died in the incident, said during the police investigation the day before, "We completely do not understand the reason the suspect committed the crime," and "We do not know why this happened." They further stated, "We usually had a good relationship, and the atmosphere was good on the day of the incident, so we do not understand why this happened."
On the 20th, A (62) shot B during a birthday party B held at his home in Songdo. The gathering included his daughter-in-law, two grandchildren, and the daughter-in-law's acquaintance (a foreign home tutor).
The family noted, "We took photos and videos together that day, sang songs, and the atmosphere was cheerful," and claimed, "However, A went out saying he was going to the convenience store, and as soon as B opened the front door for him, he fired the gun." They added, "When A did not return from the convenience store for a long time, B even called saying, 'Why aren't you coming back?'"
A police official stated, "It seems that A went outside to get the firearm and was conflicted about whether to commit the crime in the car," adding, "It appears that A was contemplating outside for 30 to 40 minutes before going back inside to commit the crime."
Previously, A claimed during the profiler investigation that he was registered as an employee in a family company and received a monthly salary of about 3 million won, but that payments had been cut off since some point last year. However, the family disputed this claim, stating, "A also received living expenses from his ex-wife, and his son supported him."
The police plan to search A's financial accounts to confirm the inconsistencies in the testimony.
Based on the fact that A purchased tools necessary for making homemade firearms online last August, the police believe this crime was premeditated. A police official stated, "As of now, we have not confirmed A's clear motive for the crime," and added, "We will also verify this part while conducting the third investigation of A today."
