During an event in Jangjin, South Jeolla Province, a sprinkler malfunctioned and doused attendees with water as the exhibition hall's ceiling overheated due to a heat wave.
According to Jangjin County, the sprinkler suddenly activated during the 'Employee Empathy Talk Concert with the County Head' held the previous day at the Baegun-dong exhibition hall. There was no fire at the time. It was a malfunction caused by the heat wave.
Some sections of the exhibition hall's ceiling have windows installed, and hot air was trapped between the curtains installed to block sunlight and the skylights, causing temperatures to soar above 70 degrees. The sprinkler activated mistakenly as it detected a fire. Jangjin County is reviewing measures for roof insulation and will adjust the activation temperature for the sprinklers.
