Minister Yoon Ho-joong of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety said on the 25th, "If the public and private sectors join forces to develop and quickly execute a strategic investment plan, we can leap to become the world's best AI (artificial intelligence) democratic government."
Minister Yoon noted during his inauguration speech that "as we enter the era of global AI hegemony competition, the transition of the public sector to AI for securing national competitiveness and enhancing government efficiency and productivity is becoming fully underway."
He said, "We have accumulated valuable experience in achieving the world's number one electronic government and digital government," adding, "Although the start may be somewhat late, let us together pledge that the Ministry of the Interior and Safety will take the lead in the public AI transition and become the epicenter and source of a major government innovation that fundamentally transforms the paradigm of public administration by maximizing government capacity and efficiency."
Minister Yoon also stated, "I will fulfill the government's fundamental duty to protect the lives and safety of the people," saying, "I will never forget the mission as the ministry responsible for disaster safety, I will prepare ahead of time and take responsibility until the end."
He also mentioned, "To ensure more proactive disaster response and safety management, I will re-evaluate all elements, from field inspections to improving response systems, as well as nurturing industries and personnel," adding, "Above all, I will empathize with the pain of the victims of various disasters and accidents and their bereaved families, and listen to each individual voice to restore the public's trust in the government."
Additionally, Minister Yoon said, "I will care for people's livelihoods and revitalize regions," emphasizing, "I will not miss the golden time for economic recovery."
He continued, "I believe that recovery consumption coupons and local love gift certificates will be a much-needed refreshing breeze for the struggling alley businesses and small merchants, restoring consumption sentiment that has fallen to the bottom," stating, "I will not spare the necessary support for localities to plan for their future and grow on their own."
