A man in his 60s suspected of killing his son with a homemade gun in Songdo, Incheon, has also been charged with attempted murder. This is based on the police's judgment that he also attempted to kill his daughter-in-law and grandson.
The Incheon Yeonsu Police Station announced on the 25th that they plan to apply the attempted murder charge to Mr. A (62), who was arrested for murder, violation of the law on the safe management of firearms, swords, and explosives, and the preparation of an arson attempt.
Police determined that Mr. A not only shot and killed his son, Mr. B (33), but also attempted to kill four others present at the scene: his daughter-in-law, two grandsons, and a friend of his daughter-in-law (a foreign house tutor). In particular, they found that applying the attempted murder charge was possible based on the circumstances that Mr. A chased after the foreign house tutor when she fled outside.
Earlier, the bereaved family of Mr. B claimed in a statement submitted to the police that 'the suspect intended to kill all family members present, not just the son.'
However, it is reported that Mr. A denied the attempted murder charge, stating in two previous police investigations that he only intended to kill his son.
On the day of the third investigation, police plan to focus on questioning Mr. A regarding the motive for the crime and whether he intended to commit additional offenses.
A police official stated, 'The suspect tracked the foreign acquaintance of his daughter-in-law, who fled outside, and it is believed he also intended to kill family members,' adding, 'Mr. A is expected to be charged with attempted murder today.'
Mr. A is accused of shooting and killing Mr. B during his birthday party in an apartment on the 33rd floor in Songdo-dong, Yeonsu-gu, Incheon, at 9:31 p.m. on the 20th.
At Mr. A's home in Dobong-gu, Seoul, where he was captured while fleeing, 15 flammable materials were found, including a bottle containing thinner and a detergent container, as well as an ignition device, and it was investigated that a timer was set for ignition at noon the day after the murder, on the 21st.
