A request for an arrest warrant for a farm owner who allowed 63 cows to starve to death at a livestock barn in Haenam, Jeonnam Province, was not accepted.
According to Haenam Police Station on the 24th, the court rejected the arrest warrant for a man in his 30s, referred to as A, who is suspected of violating the Animal Welfare Act. The court reportedly dismissed the warrant on the grounds that there was no risk of evidence destruction or flight. Police plan to transfer A without arrest.
A is accused of allowing 63 out of 67 cows he raised at his livestock barn in Songji-myeon, Haenam, Jeonnam Province, to starve to death in March of this year. He was confirmed by police investigations to have failed to provide adequate feed to the cows for several months.
Ultimately, the cows that were not fed properly reportedly became increasingly emaciated and died of starvation. A reportedly made no significant statements regarding the reasons or motives for neglecting the cows. It is known that the barn was inherited by A after the death of his father.
