It has been revealed that a student related to the 'leak of examination papers' incident at a high school in Andong, North Gyeongsang Province, has maintained the top rank in the entire school for two and a half years after admission. It is presumed that the student achieved unfairly good grades using stolen exam papers.
The Andong police station in North Gyeongsang Province has transferred to the prosecution a parent surnamed A in their 40s on charges of breaking into the high school administration office with a former homeroom teacher of their child and repeatedly stealing mid-term and final exam papers (special theft and nighttime residential break-in theft, bribery, etc.). A's daughter, a teenager, was transferred without detention on charges of obstruction of business by deception.
B, an administrative officer in his 30s who assisted in their crimes, has also been transferred. B faces charges of aiding and abetting nighttime residential break-ins, aiding and abetting joint entry under the Law on Punishment of Violent Acts, aiding and abetting obstruction of business by deception, and destruction of evidence.
Earlier, a temporary teacher surnamed C in her 30s, who assisted in their crimes, was also transferred. C has been charged with providing private tutoring to A's child since early 2020 when A's child was in the first year of middle school (violation of the Education Public Officials Act). Under current law, serving teachers cannot provide private tutoring without special permission. A has also been charged with hiring a serving teacher as a tutor (violation of the law regarding the establishment and operation of private academies and private tutoring).
According to the police, A and C broke into a certain high school located in Andong, North Gyeongsang Province, where A's daughter is enrolled, unlawfully 10 times from 2023 to recent days. They are accused of stealing mid-term and final exam papers.
A's daughter is accused of memorizing both the questions and answers in advance despite knowing that the exam papers had been leaked and has never missed being the top student in school assessments.
Their crimes were discovered when a private security system was activated on the 4th, during the final exam evaluation period. According to police investigations, the financial transactions between A and C for tutoring fees and expenses related to stealing exam papers amounted to at least 20 million won. Police report that B has been aware of their crimes since early 2024.
