Police executed a search warrant on the home of a man in his 60s, who is accused of shooting and killing his son with a homemade gun, in Songdo, Incheon, on the 23rd.
According to police and others on the 23rd, Incheon Yeonsu Police Station obtained a search warrant for the residence of A (62), who was arrested on charges of murder, located in Sangmundi, Dobong District, Seoul, and secured tools used for making homemade guns and flammable materials during the search.
The police plan to request a detailed examination of the seized evidence from the National Forensic Service and clarify A's preparations for the crime. Previously, they also secured 13 firearm barrels and 86 rounds of ammunition that were used in the crime or stored in a vehicle, as well as a plastic bottle containing thinner, and have requested analysis from the forensic institute.
The police were unable to conduct interviews with the family of A's son B (32), who died in this incident, on that day and are reported to be coordinating attendance schedules.
The arrest warrant issued for A, who was detained the previous night, cited only three charges: ▲ murder ▲ violation of the law regarding the management of firearms, swords, and explosives ▲ preparation for arson of a residence. However, the victim's family claimed in a letter submitted to the police the day before that A had attempted to kill not only his son B but also his daughter-in-law, two grandchildren, and the daughter-in-law's acquaintance (a tutor), prompting the police to consider additional charges such as attempted murder or conspiracy to commit murder.
The police plan to complete the investigation by the expiration date of A's detention, the 29th of this month, and transfer the case to the prosecution.
A is accused of shooting his son B around 9:31 p.m. on the 20th while firing a homemade gun in the 33rd-floor apartment of B's home in Songdo-dong, Yeonsu District, Incheon. After fleeing the scene, A was apprehended and stated that he had installed a homemade bomb in his home in Dobong District, Seoul. Consequently, a police special operations unit was dispatched, discovering 15 flammable materials, including bottles with thinner, detergent containers, and milk cartons, as well as an ignition device at A's residence. Investigations revealed that the bomb was set with a timer to ignite at noon on the 21st, the day following the murder.
