Police applied for an arrest warrant for a man in his 60s who allegedly killed his son with a homemade firearm in Songdo, Incheon, and set up flammable materials and a detonation timer at his home in Seoul.
The Incheon Yeonsu Police Station announced on the 21st that it had applied for an arrest warrant for A (63) on charges of murder, violation of the laws on the safe management of firearms, swords, and explosives, and the preparation of arson.
Police additionally applied arson preparation charges related to the installation of flammable materials by A, who was urgently arrested on murder charges.
A's pre-arrest suspect interrogation (warrant substantive examination) is expected to take place as early as the afternoon of the 22nd at the Incheon District Court.
A is accused of shooting and killing his son B, in his 30s, with a homemade firearm around 9:31 p.m. the previous day in their apartment located on the 33rd floor in Songdo-dong, Yeonsu District, Incheon.
The day of the incident was A's birthday, and it is reported that son B held a party with B's wife, two grandchildren, and acquaintances.
At A's home in Ssangmun-dong, Dobong District, Seoul, 15 items of flammable materials, including a bottle of thinner, detergent containers, and milk cartons, along with ignition devices were found, and it was determined that a timer was set to ignite at noon.
According to police investigation, A reportedly stated, "I learned how to make firearms on YouTube, and I had purchased the bullets 20 years ago and stored them in a warehouse."
He also mentioned that there had been "family discord" regarding the reason for murdering his son but did not provide specific motivations for the crime.
