A man in his 60s, referred to as Mr. A, who is accused of shooting and killing his son with a homemade firearm in the Songdo International City apartment in Incheon, was found to have multiple explosives, including thinner and ignition devices, at his home.
According to the police on the 21st, 15 explosives were discovered at the home of Mr. A (63) in the Ssangmun-dong area of Dobong-gu, Seoul. Mr. A was urgently arrested on charges of murder and violations of the law concerning the safety management of firearms, swords, and explosives.
The explosives were connected to ignition devices through plastic bottles filled with thinner, detergent containers, and milk cartons. It was reported that these explosives were set to detonate at noon on that day.
The police discovered an additional nine firearm barrels aside from the two homemade firearms used in the crime in the passenger seat and trunk of Mr. A's vehicle. Also, five to six metal pipes were found at his home. The police suspect that Mr. A personally manufactured the homemade firearms and purchased the ammunition separately, and they are investigating the specific circumstances of the acquisition.
A police official noted, "After securing Mr. A's statement that he installed homemade explosives in his home, we dispatched to the scene and removed all the thinner and timer devices," adding, "Had we not removed them, there was a risk they would actually explode."
Mr. A is accused of firing a homemade firearm and killing his son, referred to as Mr. B, in his 30s from the 33rd floor of an apartment in Songdo-dong, Yeonsu-gu, Incheon, around 9:31 p.m. the previous day. It was reported that the day of the crime coincided with Mr. A's birthday, and his son Mr. B was hosting a party with Mr. B's wife, two grandchildren, and acquaintances present.
Mr. A fled after the crime but was apprehended around 12:20 a.m. the following day in Seoul and was transported to Incheon. According to the police investigation, Mr. A is believed to have fired two shotgun shells containing multiple steel pellets consecutively at Mr. B using a pipe-shaped homemade firearm.
