The special prosecutor's office has confirmed that Kim Keon-hee has been summoned to appear on the 28th, identified as a key suspect in connection with allegations of interference in the nomination process.
According to legal circles, the special prosecutor's office delivered a summons to Mr. Myung on this day, requiring his appearance as a suspect. The summons reportedly specified Mr. Myung as a suspect in allegations of bribery and violations of the Political Funds Act.
Mr. Myung is accused of offering free opinion polls to former President Yoon Suk-yeol and his spouse during the last presidential election and receiving the nomination for former lawmaker Kim Young-sun's by-election in 2022 in return. It is reported that the special prosecutor's office views that the former President Yoon's side gained financial benefits by not paying for the opinion polls. As a result, the special prosecutor's office applied bribery charges to Mr. Myung for bribery and to the former President and his spouse for receiving bribes.
However, Mr. Myung's side reportedly refused to accept the special prosecutor's summons. They stated, "The 28th notified by the special prosecutor is difficult for us to attend due to the schedule of our attorney," and "we said we could attend on July 31 and August 1, 2, and 3, but the special prosecutor refused."
Meanwhile, the special prosecutor's office has notified former President Yoon to appear on the 29th. Kim Keon-hee is scheduled for a summons investigation on the 6th of next month.
