Around 2:19 p.m. on the 21st, a body was discovered near the Geumgang Bridge in Sejongdong, Sejong City. This body is presumed to be that of a man in his 40s, whose disappearance was belatedly reported by the Sejong City authorities.
According to Sejong City and the fire department, rescuers discovered a body while searching the area around Geumgang Bridge with a drone on that day.
Previously, a man surnamed A went missing in the early morning of the 17th during heavy rain after being swept away by rapid currents. The police confirmed A's disappearance through closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage only after 23 hours had passed since the incident, in the early morning of the 18th. Following this, the police and fire department began searching the Geumgang area from the morning of the 18th.
The police determined that the appearance of the missing person matched that of the body. Currently, they are in the process of identifying the exact identity through fingerprint collection and genetic information testing.
On the morning of the fourth day of the search for the missing person, around 9:30 a.m., the police deployed 170 personnel, including the Sejong Police Agency's mobile unit, aviation units from the South Chungcheong and North Jeolla provincial police agencies, the Daejeon police drone team, firefighters, volunteer firefighters, and the Marine Corps Veterans Association for the search operation.
Although the police became aware of Mr. A's disappearance in the early morning of the 18th, the disaster response headquarters report of Sejong City as of 9 a.m. that same day stated that there was no reported loss of life, causing controversy.
