A man in his 60s, who fatally shot his son in an apartment in Songdo, Incheon, is believed to have committed the act due to 'family discord.'
Park Sang-jin, chief of the Yeonsu Police Station in Incheon, noted at a briefing on the 21st that the fact was confirmed after investigating the suspect, Mr. A (63). However, Mr. A is said to be avoiding detailed statements.
Chief Park said regarding Mr. A, 'We will apply for an arrest warrant after verifying the circumstances of firearm production.' He added, 'We are currently establishing a psychological treatment support system for the victim's family.'
Mr. A is accused of firing a homemade firearm at his son B (30) in the chest, resulting in his death, around 9:31 p.m. the previous day in an apartment in Songdo International City, Yeonsu District, Incheon.
Police secured nine parts believed to be for the barrel from Mr. A's vehicle and an additional five to six metal pipes from his home. Investigations revealed that Mr. A purchased materials online and had cut them to size at a welding shop to manufacture firearms. The ammunition had been purchased in the past and stored for a long time.
Police also discovered 15 explosives at Mr. A's residence in Seoul. The explosives were connected to ignition devices and timers, with some set to explode at noon that day.
After securing Mr. A's statement, police dispatched to the scene and removed the thinner and timers. These devices were reportedly capable of causing actual explosions. Mr. A is known to have stated that the flammable materials installed in his home were 'crafted through his own research.'
