A cable car in Seoraksan, Sokcho, Gangwon Province, stopped during operation. Passengers were rescued after 4 hours and 30 minutes.
According to the fire authorities, around 3:56 p.m. on the 20th, the Seoraksan cable car stopped about 70 meters above ground while operating one in each direction. At that time, there were 42 people on the ascending line and 44 people on the descending line.
The cable car company completed temporary repairs around 6:10 p.m. that day and prioritized rescuing the 44 passengers on the descending line. The 42 passengers on the ascending line disembarked at the observation deck, Geunkeumsung.
At Geunkeumsung observation deck, there were 173 people waiting for the descending line, and after the cable car was restored, a total of 215 people who had been waiting at the observation deck descended in sequence. All were rescued by around 8:30 p.m. that day. No passengers were transported to the hospital.
The fire authorities are investigating the cause of the accident, which is believed to have occurred due to a hydraulic oil leak.
