In Gyeongnam's Sancheong-gun, heavy rainfall of up to 100mm per hour has caused soil runoff, leading to the disappearance of three residents. Among them, one is presumed dead. Sancheong-gun has issued an evacuation order for all residents, and the fire authorities have also raised the response level from 1 to 2.
As of 3 p.m. on the 19th, according to reports from Sancheong-gun, three residents, including two in their 70s and one in their 20s from Buri village in Sancheong-eup, are missing, and the fire authorities are currently conducting search operations. Authorities believe that one of them has died. It appears that residents were swept away due to landslides caused by the heavy rain, which pushed soil onto farms.
A landslide warning had been issued in Sancheong-gun. Previously, at around 1:50 p.m. that day, Sancheong-gun sent an emergency disaster text message stating, "All residents must evacuate to safe zones immediately." As of last month, the population of Sancheong-gun was 30,086 in 19,642 households.
The Gyeongnam Fire Department raised the fire response level for Sancheong-eup area from level 1 to level 2 around 11:25 a.m. that day. Level 2 response means mobilizing 51 to 80 pieces of equipment from 8 to 14 fire stations.
According to the Gyeongnam Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters, the average rainfall in the Gyeongnam region reached 189.8mm from the 16th to 2 p.m. on that day. Among this, Sancheong-gun received 632mm, Hamann-gun 532.5mm, and Hapcheon-gun 502.5mm.
Gyeongnam Province has restricted 310 locations, including roads and underground passages. Due to the heavy rain, 267 public facilities and private properties were damaged, with 312 incidents including flooding of roads, greenhouses, and dwellings.
